According to the Environmental Protection Agency, geothermal heating and cooling systems are the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning systems available.
The EPA found that geothermal systems can reduce energy consumption--and corresponding emissions by over 40% compared to air source heat pumps and by over 70% compared to electric resistance heating with standard air-conditioning equipment. Geothermal heating and cooling uses the relatively constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool homes and businesses. While conventional furnaces and boilers burn a fuel to generate heat, geothermal heat pumps use electricity to simply move heat from the earth into buildings, allowing much higher efficiencies.
The most efficient fuel-burning heater can reach efficiencies around 95%, but a geothermal heat pump can move up to 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity needed to power the system, resulting in a practical equivalence of over 400% efficiency. Click for types... |

Geothermal energy is a clean renewable form of energy that helps us reduce our dependence on other forms of energy and helps reduce environmental impact and climate change.
- While the investment of a geothermal system may be initially more than other heating systems, your monthly utility bill will drastically be reduced, therefore instantly saving you money.
- A homeowner who is buying, selling, refinancing or remodeling his or her home may be eligible for Pennsylvania's Special
Low Rate, Low Payment Financing Program for Energy Efficiency Home Improvements. Click here for more information.
These loans provide the borrower with special benefits when buying a home that is energy efficient or can be made efficient through the installation of energy-saving improvements. The Energy Efficient Mortgage is easy to use, federally recognized and can be applied to most home mortgages.
